Products, credit notes and proforma invoices

Published by Cruzeviz on . Updated .

Save your products and services once, then pick them on any invoice.

The name, rate and tax you saved come onto the line, so each bill uses the same item instead of a freshly typed one. You can still change a line on a single invoice when that job is different.

Credit notes

Issue a credit note against an invoice when you need to reduce it: a return, a waiver, or a bill raised for the wrong amount. The credit note refers to that invoice. It does not delete the original. The balance the customer owes comes down by the credit.

Proforma invoices

Send a proforma invoice to ask for an advance before the work is billed as a tax invoice. The proforma is the request for that advance. It is not the same document as the final invoice you issue later.

The public guide on credit notes and debit notes explains the document in general. Your own credit notes stay in your account.

Questions

Do I retype items on every invoice?

No. Save the product or service once and pick it on the invoice.

What does a credit note do?

It reduces an invoice you already issued. The original invoice stays, and the amount owed comes down.

What is a proforma invoice for?

To ask for an advance before you issue the final invoice.
